Our cover contributor for this month is Take Kayo, who explains how his initial fear of photographing strangers on the streets many years ago led to the creation of a new photographic genre for him. Similar to ‘Tableau Vivant’, he mixes posed models with his candid approach to street photography, resulting in some truly interesting street imagery that often has a cinematic feel.
Next up is Jeff Carter, who is sharing a behind-the-scenes look at his year-long photographic and film project documenting the everyday working life of Barry Brunton and his fishing boat, the Rockhopper of Percuel in Dunbar, Scotland. Stephanie Baxter, meanwhile, gets a bit of much-needed insight into landscape photography from landscape photographer, YouTuber and X Series user Nigel Danson, learning the art of slowing down and really looking in order to achieve successful landscape compositions.
Giving us an in-depth look into the ins and outs of aperture and depth of field is Dave Kai-Piper, who shares with us some practical tips for using it to our advantage through examples of his own work, while Jonas Rask takes a look at the not-yet-released XF8-16mmF2.8 in the latest installment of his FujiLove Lens Guide.
Continuing his ‘Simplicity in Seeing Series’, Olaf Sztaba gives us an insight into the final step of the photographic process: the presentation. Jens Krauer is next up with his latest article in his ‘Street Photography’ series, taking a look at the relationship between the settings on his X Series cameras and the process of making creative decisions.
In this month’s interview, we’re talking to Pete Reed OBE, triple Olympic Champion and five-times World Champion in rowing, officer in the Royal Navy, and keen photographer and user of the Fujifilm X Series. We discuss life after competitive rowing, how the X Series cameras have enabled him to share an intimate look at the blood, sweat and tears that goes into the training of top level athletes, our shared love for the X70 and much more. Rounding off our September issue is João Carlos, who offers us some instruction for different lighting setups to help inspire our photography.
Happy reading!
